Henry (Heinrich) Jospeh Bricking

Henricus Joseph (Henry) Bricking
* 12 May 1854, St Joseph Church, Cincinnati, Ohio
+ 24 April 1930, Bellevue, Kentucky
oo, Mary Catherine Barlage, 9 Dec 1877, Saint Louis, Missouri

Birth

It took almost a decade of looking but Henricus Joseph’s Birth/Baptism record was discovered in Hamilton County, Ohio Roman Catholic Baptism Records, 1850-1859 published in 2018.   Census records lists Ohio, Kentucky and Missouri as birth locations.  The variation in birth day, year and location speaks for much of the confusion over the years.

Mother of Henry

Johanna Luetkenhoff was the mother of Henrich.  I have found evidence of the marriage between his father Lambert and Johanna Luetkenhoff in 1846.  Henry’s brother, Johann Lambert was born 10 Aug 1842 in Ammeloe, Westfallen (Germany) and must have immigrated with Lambert after Johann Lambert’s mother, Johanna Elisabeth Depenbrock died.  The US 1850 Census lists Henry’s mother as Hanah. Interestingly, in Henry’s 1877 marriage record it states that his mother’s name was +Margarethae Brücking.  Could this have been her middle name?

Coincidences

In 1872 Henry lived with Bernard Aldemeyer and 2 of his sons both of whom were ropemakers.  In 1877 Henry married Mary Catherine Barlage, daughter of Martin Barlage, a ropemaker who also lived in Covington.  Martin and Henry’s father also must have known each other because they were neighbors in 1850 according to the census that year.

Marriage

Henry married Mary Catherine Barlage in 1877.   Interestingly, Henry’s father, Lambert Bricking and Mary Catherine Barlage’s father, Martin Barlage were neighbors according to the 1850 Census.  It is unclear why but they traveled to Saint Joseph Church in Saint Louis, Missouri to marry on 9 Dec 1877.
