Who was Bridget Bird?
Little is known about Bridget Bird. I found an 1850 Census with a Bridget Bird living in Millcreek Township, 21 years old from Ireland living in the same dwelling as about 12 other people. No other Birds. Marriage records list Willaim’s wife as Birgittam and County records list her name as Bridget. Baptismal records of their 4 children all list her names as Bridget. To add confusion to the picture John Joseph Flynn listed his mother as Margaret Bird and not Bridget. The 1860 Census lists William’s wife as Mary Flinn.. I suspect her name may have been Mary Bridget . The death record name of Margaret is a little confusing but note that John Joseph would have been only 12 when he was adopted by James Bird. James Bird 2 years later married Margaret Maher. It is possible that John considered Margaret Maher his mother and that was the name passed along as grew older.
